Rider’s Tips in Riding under Bad Weather Condition

Riding under Bad Weather Condition

Everybody wants to buy a new bike simply to feed their wants and hobbies. Just like you, you buy a new bike to ride on, maybe as a means of escape or pastime, especially in the summer or under good weather condition.  How about in the unprecedented bad weather condition?

Even if you try to avoid it, it is already part of the phenomenon that you could find yourself driving under the not so desirable weather condition. Whether you are just out there for a quick ride or stroll, you might be surprised of the sudden change in weather. So, you need to be prepared.
The following are some of the tips you need to keep in mind to ensure safety when a sudden change in weather takes place.

Always Wear Safety Gear

In addition to the obvious motorcycle helmet you should be wearing, you must always bring along with you other necessary pieces of gear in order to drive safely in poor weather. For instance, if the weather is cold, you should wear gloves and put on raincoat. These gears should be in your motorcycle trunk all the time to prevent you from freezing or numbing.

Brake Responsibly

In most cases, motorcycles have two brakes, hand brake and brake pedal, both must be applied simultaneously. You must keep in mind each brake is providing great braking power, so applying a gradual pressure is necessary in order to avoid further accident. If you press the brake too abruptly and with extreme pressure, it will cause the front wheel to become locked that would further cause most road accidents.

In the icy or wet roads, stage braking should be used. This kind of braking gradually placed the pressure on the front brake so that the front wheel locking can be avoided. In order to ensure safety, you must be aware the reaction that the motorcycle will be having after the braking. So, you could avoid accident.

Make Gradual Changes While Driving

In the poor weather conditions, it is essential that you indicate changes in your driving like braking and lane changes. When you are going to do gradual changes, it is important that you give other drivers significant notice when you change lanes or when you stop. Always keep in mind that under bad weather conditions accelerating too fast can be very dangerous and would mostly end up to road accidents.

Accelerate Gradually

In poor weather conditions, don’t accelerate too fast. Don’t be carried away. You need to make sure that the ground is flat and not slippery before you try to accelerate. If your rear wheel is not completely on the flat surface before you accelerate, slow down. You must wait to speed up until you are completely in contact with the flat ground.

Increase Braking Distance

Under bad weather conditions, you should make sure that you are giving yourself adequate distance from the vehicle in front when you brake. It is a better idea if you provide 2 to 3 times more stopping distance from the vehicle in front of you so that you could complete a safe stop without bumping against another’s rear. To ensure that you could accomplish this in this kind of circumstance, you need to ensure that your rotors are kept clean and your brakes are dry. This is to enable you to brake so well when the weather is bad.

The above are the tips on how to stay safe while riding in poor weather conditions. Just follow the above guides and you could reach home safe and sound.
